News (Press Release) as of September 9, 2000

Ateneo Alumni Association Canada to hold 6th Annual Scholarship Dinner-Dance on October 21, 2000.

The Chairman of the Ateneo Alumni Association Canada (AAAC), Luth Penaflor, recently announced the holding of the AAAC's 6th Annual Scholarship Dinner-Dance at the Garnet-Williams Community Centre on Clark Ave., Toronto, on October 21, 2000. This affair marks the culmination of fund-raising activities of the AAAC which started in June 2000 with a Golf Tournament in Pickering, Ontario.

The AAAC is an association of alumni from various Ateneo schools in the Philippines, namely, Ateneo de Davao, Ateneo de Manila, Ateneo de Naga, Ateneo de San Pablo, Ateneo de Tuguegaro, Ateneo de Zamboanga and Xavier University, founded in October 1994, with the main purpose of providing full (four-year) Ateneo scholarships for poor but deserving Filipino students. To date, the AAAC has funded six full scholars, of which one has recently graduated and three are incoming scholars. In order to help meet a growing need for scholarships, it is expanding its funding resources through new endeavours, one of which is the annual Golf Tournament and the other, the Scholarship Pledge Program. However, the Annual Dinner-Dance is the mainstay of its continuing fund-raising efforts to make its own contribution to the needs of deserving students in the Philippines.

All AAAC supporters, Alumni, members, and those interested in helping provide education to deserving students are enjoined to attend and support this annual tradition, and participate in another evening of enjoyment, music, feasting and dancing.
